Frederick Douglass was one of the most prominent figures of the 19th Century; and the most photographed. His autobiography: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, made him incredibly famous. It detailed his trials and tribulations as a slave, as he navigated life in bondage to become an abolitionist, orator, newspaper publisher, and the first Black US Marshall.
